Northeast Asia, rapidly emerging as the worldĄŻs largest market, accounts for 20% and 27% of the worldĄŻs area and population, respectively. It is one of the three major global trade zones with the EU and NAFTA, and is ever expanding its presence in the global market. The percentage of global container cargo passing through Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, China, and Japan has increased steadily from 27% in 1998 to 36% today.

With a water area of 145.19§´ and 78 berths, Gwangyang Port annually accommodates about 43,000 ships including container carriers, oil tankers, bulk carriers, chemical carriers, and LNG carriers, etc., and handles cargo volume of about 200 million tons. Because of its

geoeconomic advantages, being on the main shipping lanes connecting the US, Europe, and Asia, and benefiting from a relatively stable waters throughout the year, it is well on the way to becoming the next hub port of Northeast Asia. It boasts an optimal environment for international logistics.
